Ms. Ballenger's primary focus is commercial real estate development and transactions. Prior to joining BBS&G, Ms. Ballenger served for nine years as General Counsel to The Artery Capital Group, LLC, a commercial real estate company with a fifty-year history in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area with a wide range of office, multi-family, hospitality and residential land investments. Her responsibilities at Artery included assisting the company's land development division in its acquisition, entitlement and development of over 5,000 residential building lots within the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area with respect to tasks such as site analysis and due diligence, the negotiation of purchase and sale and joint venture agreements (including assemblage and zoning contingency contracts), negotiation of acquisition and development financing documents, and the drafting and negotiation of bulk sale, raw, and finished lot contracts. Ms. Ballenger is familiar with drafting and reviewing the wide variety of legal documents which facilitate the business of commercial real estate, and, because of her experiences as an in-house counsel, Ms. Ballenger is able to appreciate the business goals of her clients and understand the perspectives of the different parties to a transaction. She focuses on delivering efficient and practical legal advice and user-friendly legal documents. Prior to joining Artery as General Counsel, Ms. Ballenger practiced commercial real estate law with the firm of Shaw Pittman Potts and Trowbridge (now Pillsbury), where she represented developers in the acquisition, financing, development and disposition of office buildings, retail centers, hotels, multi-family properties and undeveloped land.
Ms. Ballenger is a graduate of Davidson College, an honors graduate of the University of North Carolina - School of Law, and she holds a master's degree in city and regional planning, also from UNC.
